Welcome to WorkCarousel
The two minute guide
Talk about work. Honestly.
Thank you for saying yes. You are one of the first people outside the build team to use WorkCarousel, and that makes your opinion worth more right now than it will be at any point after launch.
WorkCarousel is a social app about work, for anyone who works. We believe a title does not tell your story. This is a place to share the real experience of work: what you do, what you have done, who you are off the clock, and what you really think.
Why we are building it
Everywhere else you talk about work, you are performing a little. The post is for the algorithm, or for recruiters, or for whoever might be watching. The true version mostly gets said in a private message or in the parking lot.
WorkCarousel is where that version goes on the record, under your own name. The people you worked with three jobs ago stay findable. Your profile has room for the band practice and the half marathon and the thing you do on Sundays, because those are not a footnote to who you are. And saying what a week was really like costs you nothing.
One honest note. Most of that is still a promise rather than a fact, because there are very few people on it yet and most of them are us. What you can judge today is whether this feels like somewhere you would say the true thing. That is the real question we are asking you.
Get it on your phone
iPhone
- Open this page on your iPhone, not your laptop.
- Install TestFlight from the App Store first. It is Apple’s free app for test versions and it is what runs the beta.
- Come back here, tap the iPhone link, tap to accept, then tap Install.
- Open WorkCarousel and sign up with your real name.
Android
- Open this page on your Android phone.
- It opens WorkCarousel in the Google Play Store, where the app is live. Searching for WorkCarousel in the Play Store works too.
- Tap Install.
- Open WorkCarousel and sign up with your real name.
Seeing a prompt asking for a redeem code? That means TestFlight is not installed on your phone yet. Install TestFlight from the App Store, then open the iPhone link again. There is no code and nothing to pay.
Would rather not install anything? WorkCarousel works in your browser, on the same account.
Set up your profile, about ten minutes
Your profile is the part of WorkCarousel that is most different from other networks, so it is worth doing properly.
- The Day Job. What you do now.
- Off the Clock. Who you are outside of work. Parent, runner, terrible golfer, whatever is true.
- Your path. Every job, school, camp and cause. Uploading a resume fills in part of it for you.
- Current vibes. A few tags for where your head is at.
What happens to your resume. It is read on your phone, not on our servers. The file is never uploaded to us or to anyone else, and we do not keep it. The app pulls the places you have worked and studied out of the text, shows them to you, and only the ones you approve get added to your path.
Those approved entries are also what put you in a Cohort, the group of other people who were at the same employer or school you were. That is how you find people you already worked with, and it is the reason filling in your path is worth the ten minutes.
Your first week: six things to try
- Answer Today’s Prompt on The Floor. It changes daily.
- React to three posts. Try the different reactions, not just one.
- Join a Room. Rooms are groups by interest, not by employer.
- Connect with three people in People.
- Send one message in Talk.
- Post something with a photo.
A few ground rules
- Everyone here uses their real name, including you. Post what you would be comfortable having your name on.
- Aim at situations, not named people. Talk about the meeting that could have been a walk, not the person who called it.
- Some posts are marked NSFW (not safe for work). They stay hidden until you tap to show them.
- Funny is welcome. Punching down is not.
Telling us what you think
Write to support@workcarousel.com. Bugs, ideas, complaints, things you liked. A screen you did not understand is more useful to us than a compliment.
A useful bug report has three things: your phone, iPhone or Android; what you tapped right before it went wrong; and a screenshot, if you can grab one.
Your one week check-in
About a week after you install, we will ask you three questions. They take two minutes.
- What did you open WorkCarousel for?
- What confused you or got in your way?
- If it disappeared tomorrow, would you miss it? Why or why not?
If you want out
No hard feelings. You can delete your account yourself from inside the app, in your account settings, and your content comes off the live systems right away. If you would rather we did it for you, write to support@workcarousel.com. How we handle your information is in our privacy policy.
Thank you. We built this for people like you, and we would rather hear the hard stuff now.
